Thierry Dufrêne is Professor of Art History at the University Paris Nanterre. He is alumnus of the École Normale Supérieure, Paris. From 2007 to 2013, he was Deputy to the General Director at the Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art, Paris, in charge of international relations. In 2004-2016, Dufrêne was Scientific Secretary of the Comité international d’histoire de l’art (CIHA). Thierry Dufrêne has published, among others: Giacometti. Les dimensions de la réalité (Geneva: Skira, 1993), The Great Gallery of Sculpture (Paris: Centre Pompidou/Louvre/Orsay, 2005), Giacometti/Genet: Masks and Modern Portrait (Paris: Vilo, 2006), David Nash (Paris: Gallery Lelong, 2012), Salvador Dali double image, double vie (Paris: Hazan, 2012), La poupée sublimée. Dufrêne was one of the curators of the exhibition Salvador Dali (Pompidou Center, 2012-2013, Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid, 2013-2014) and of the exhibition Persona. Etrangement humain (Musée du Quai Branly, January-October 2016). He organised the exhibition L’Invention de Morel : la machine à images at the Maison de l’Amérique latine (Paris, March-July 2018) and is preparing a new exhibition at the Delacroix Museum (Paris): Your House is a Museum (a correspondance between Delacroix and Orhan Pamuk). He is now finishing a book on the history of contemporary sculpture(Hazan/Hachette).
